Barrie Whitmore of the much respected Architects Whitmore & Humphreys had been commissioned to design a 3 bed house incorporating a completely reconstructed 16th Century Oak framed Barn. The brief was to incorporate as much reclaimed material as possible and was exacting in that extremely high insulation values where required whilst the use of natural environmentally friendly materials were an essential requirement. ![]()

The mixture of reclaimed Oak beams, cast iron windows, sanitary ware etc., together with modern 'environmental' elements such as solar heating and recycled water system, made the contract an interesting and challenging one, which was successfully completed early 1999.
